about

Daya World, LLC is pleased to announce the release of the debut single “Matters of a Woman’s Heart” from the newly formed band Oneeki Roots.

Oneeki Roots has released their debut single titled "Matters of a Woman's Heart." The group features contributions from special guest artists and is spearheaded by Fanon Hill, a Baltimore-based music producer and waterfront festival co-founder.

The video for the song features the Arabbers, African-American street vendors transporting their goods via horse drawn wagons who have been an institution in Baltimore since the 19th century. In 1994, the Arabber Preservation Society was formed to renovate stables and preserve their livelihood. Throughout the pandemic, Arrabers in Baltimore distributed food, personal protective equipment, and information about Covid-19.

"Matters of a Woman’s Heart" features international recording artist Navasha Daya, dubbed “Astral Soul Goddess” by Mojo Magazine. In the video, Daya rides proudly through the streets of Baltimore in the back of a Carlton Street Stable Arraber wagon delivering her sultry, multi-octave vocals. Daya is the wife of Hill, who is seen playing guitar.

“Blessed are Baltimore’s Arabbers. They embody the spirit of the Nguzo Saba year-round with their harvest, nurturing the community and fostering deep connections with the natural world,” said Hill. “Blessed are those who take care of a woman's heart, for it can move the very earth, sculpt new nations, and reveal galaxies near and far.”

The song and video are also in tribute to iconic reggae artist David ‘Papa Dave’ Smeltz, who passed away in 2021 after a long battle with COVID-19.

In 1977, Smeltz cofounded I-Tal, the pioneering, prolific and influential reggae band of the Northeast corridor of the United States. Smeltz was a major influence on countless musicians and bandleaders including Hill.

The story for the video was woven by Fanon Hill and brought to life by the cinematography of Toroes Thomas, Aaron Smith, and Jaquan Scovens.
